In this project, experimental tests were performed on empty and foam-filled bi-tubular composite cone-tubes under axial compression loading. The hand lay-up method was used to fabricate the bi-cone-tubes using jute and glass/epoxy materials. Tube and top cone diameters were 40 mm and 65.6 mm, respectively. Cone semi-apical angles of 5°, 10°, 15°, 20°, and 25° were examined. The length of the fabricated tubes and cones was maintained at 110 mm. Polyurethane foam was used as a foam filler. Load-displacement graphs for all the tested specimens were drawn and discussed. Energy absorption, crush force efficiency, and stroke efficiency were calculated and discussed. The effect of cone semi-apical angle, foam filler, and material used on the maximum load and on the absorbed energy were investigated. Crashworthiness analysis was also made based on the results of specific energy absorption, crush force efficiency, and stroke efficiency.
Results show that glass/epoxy bi-tubular cone-tubes supported a load 71% higher than the jute-glass/epoxy 52% and jute/epoxy cone-tubes, respectively. It has been found that the foam-filled bi-tubular cone tubes improved the absorbed energy significantly, and the crushing process became more stable than the empty bi-tubular cone tubes. The increase in cone semi-apical angle increases the absorbed energy, crush force efficiency, and the stroke efficiency for both empty and foam-filled bi-tubes.
Maximum energy absorption values obtained from the axially crushed bi-tubular cone-tubes were 50%, 49%, and 48% for glass/epoxy, Jute-glass/epoxy, and Jute/epoxy composite materials used.

In this project lateral loading has been performed on foam filled bi-tubular composite tubes. Hand lay-up method is used to fabricate the Jute, glass and jute-glass/epoxy bi-tubes. Polyurethane is used as the foam filler for the bi-tubes. The inner and outer tubes tube diameters were of 55 mm and 110 mm respectively. The length of 200 mm is maintained for all the fabricated tubes. Single tubes having diameters similar to the inner and outer tubes diameters were fabricated and subjected to lateral loading for comparison purpose. Lateral load-displacement relations are drawn and the energy absorption is calculated. Crush force efficiency and stroke efficiency were determined and discussed. Effect of material used on the ultimate load and the specific energy absorption is compared. Crashworthiness analysis was made on the laterally crushed bi-tubes based on the crush force efficiency, stroke efficiency and the absorbed energy results. Failure mode of the crushed bi-tubes identified and discussed.
Results show that the glass-fibre/ epoxy bi-tubes supported load higher 32.5% and 16% than the jute-glass and jute-epoxy specimens respectively. The glass-fibre/epoxy bi-tubes supported load of 54% and 37.5% higher than the individual of the maximum loads obtained from the empty inner and outer tubes. The percentage differences for the jute-glass and jute/epoxy tubes were 32% and 59.6% respectively. It has been found that, the glass/ epoxy bi-tubes absorbed energy higher 74.2% and 72.1% than the jute-glass and jute-eроху specimens respectively. Two longitudinal cracks were observed on the laterally loaded bi-tubes, at the top and bottom of the surfaces of the crushed specimens. With the progress in the crush distance, another two longitudinal cracks were observed at both sides of the specimen. Delamination is also observed on the crushed specimens.

The wind resource is a crucial step in planning a wind energy project, and detailed knowledge of the wind characteristics at the site is needed to estimate the performance of a wind energy project. Computing and communication system have been consistently improving over the past few years. With the breakthrough of wavelength division multiplexing (WDM) and dense wavelength division multiplexing (DWDM) system, high data rate transmission for the future information infrastructure in computing and communication system can be achieved.
In this research work, WDM and DWDM system based on photonic microring resonator have been designed, simulated and analysed using ring radius variation method. The microring resonator in the WDM system were designed with increasing radius of 20nm in length. Meanwhile, three types of DWDM systems; standard, super and ultra DWDM system have been designed with varying ring radius variation of 0.8nm for standard DWDM system, 0.4nm for super DWDM system and 0.2nm for ultra DWDM system to achieve constant channel spacing.

The future technological advancement based optical networking for on- chip applications are being introduced smaller and smaller in size over the decades. The selection of the reference ring radius is very important for designing on-chip WDM communication integrated circuit as it has a significant impact on the FSR, and it is responsible for determining the bandwidth and the channel capacity of the system. Hence, reference ring radii of 1, 5 and 10µm have been chosen to design, simulate and analyse the subsequent photonic microring resonator based WDM and DWDM system as it produces wide FSR.
Channel limitation analysis of the systems have been performed to investigate and analyse the maximum number of channels that can be incorporated into the system within a single free spectral range and across the S, C and L telecommunication bands. The digital signal analysis between the channels in the WDM and DWDM system were consequently studied using 10Gb/s of digital data signal. The WDM system with 20nm in length variation has shown a high-quality signal when using 1, 5 and 10µm reference ring, which allow a maximum possible data transmission of 600Gb/s, 2.73Tb/s and 5.42Tb/s, respectively. The standard, super and ultra DWDM systems of 1µm reference ring radius have offered 2.07Tb/s, 4.01Tb/s and 8.19Tb/s of data signal transmission. Whereas, the standard, super and ultra DWDM systems of Sum reference ring radius using 0.8nm, 0.4nm and 0.2nm channel spacing have shown a very good signal and allow a maximum possible data transmission of 1.93Tb/s, 3.81Tb/s and 7.86Tb/s. Last but not least, the standard, super and ultra DWDM systems with 10µm reference ring radius using 0.8nm, 0.4nm and 0.2nm channel spacing have shown a decent signal quality and allow a maximum possible data transmission of 1.94Tb/s, 3.68Tb/s and 7.55Tb/s.

The limitation of this research study is that, due to limited time and resources, the WDM and DWDM system have only been simulated so it would be meaningful to fabricate these system design in experiment and lastly, more research work on optimising the coupling of the microring resonator by varying the dimension such as width and gap separation of the waveguides in device level using Lumerical DEVICE and/or MODE is highly demanded, especially for the 1 um reference ring in ultra DWDM system.
Nonetheless, the potential of this WDM and DWDM system based on photonics microring resonator using ring radius variation method would be able to mitigate the demand of the future state-of-the-art computing and communication system and they will, undoubtedly, be able to suffice the high- speed optical data transmission system for the future computing and communication system.

Site survey is a mandatory process in the development of piping work pack for offshore maintenance project.
Sometimes it cannot be completed as per schedule due to some reasons such as: bad weather, operation priority, unavailability of seat for offshore traveling and sometimes movement restriction due to any pandemic situations such as Covid 19, Monkeypox, etc.
These situations may give uncertainty on the ability of design team to deliver the design engineering work pack as per schedule. The alternative way of survey is to do desktop survey utilizing 3D model. However, it requires assessment on effectiveness of this desktop survey on its quality performance, productivity, and cost prior to utilize it as a new norm in the development of piping work packs for offshore maintenance project.
This research aimed to assess the effectiveness of this desktop survey. Sample of 5 offshore maintenance projects with total 342 piping work packs developed with site survey and 160 piping work packs developed with desktop survey were taken from Brunei Shell Petroleum (BSP) offshore restoration, maintenance, and construction (ORMC) project. The assessment on effectiveness was done using statistical comparative analysis between site survey and desktop survey using T-Test and Mann-Whitney methods with
confidence interval 95% (a = 5%). Based on this analysis, it was found that desktop survey
has no significant difference on quality performance ratio with site survey (P-value is
0.451), it means desktop survey has same quality performance with site survey. While for productivity, it was found that there is significant difference between site survey and desktop survey (P-value is 0.038), it means desktop survey has significant higher productivity than site survey. Similar decision was made also for Cost ratio for desktop survey without laser dimensional scanning (LDS), there is significant difference between desktop survey (without LDS) and site survey (P-value is 0.000), it means that desktop survey (without LDS) has significant higher cost efficiency than site survey. However, when the LDS is required due to unavailability of 3D model, there is no significant difference on the cost ratio between desktop survey (with LDS) and site survey (P-value is 0.144), it means desktop survey (with LDS) has same cost efficiency with site survey.
Based on the assessment for overall indicators (quality, productivity, and cost), it was found that desktop survey without LDS has a significant different with site survey (P-value is 0.018), It means desktop survey without LDS has ability to improve its effectiveness significantly better than site survey. While for desktop survey with LDS, it has no significant difference with site survey (P-value is 0.803). It means desktop survey has ability to maintain its effectiveness same as site survey. Even for some indicators such as productivity and cost (desktop survey without LDS), it can improve its performance.
The result was also validated by applying desktop survey to another similar maintenance project and analysing using the same method. It was found that there is no significant difference on the effectiveness between the previous projects with the new similar project (P-value is 0.936). Hence it can be concluded that desktop survey utilizing 3D model is proven and can be used as an alternative way of working for development of piping work pack for offshore maintenance projects in lieu of conventional site survey.

Brunei aims to increase its renewable energy share to.200 MW by 2025, 600 MW by 2035, and 1200 MW by 2050. Despite the ambitious goals, the country only has less than
7 MW capacity to date. The country needs to consider all alternatives to boost renewable energy generation including the possibility of generation using residential rooftops for solar panels to achieve these targets. Indeed, the residential sector is the highest electricity consumer in the country with heavily subsidised electricity tariffs. Hence, this study aimed to explore the potential of implementing residential rooftop PV systems in terms of solar capacity and economics for users and the government, according to income and location factors. The study collected user data load consumption, analysed solar energy potential, and assessed residential rooftop availability. Four scenarios were identified to attract users, and economic analysis was conducted to assess feasibility. The average residential PV system sizes were projected nationwide, and total solar energy capacity was estimated, including potential government and user savings. The residential rooftop PV system sizes were estimated to be between 10.5 kW and 30.8 kW. The best implementation scenario results in a payback of 16.2 - 34.1 years, with a return on investment of -26.7% to 54.0%. Residential monthly savings range from BND 41 to BND 59 for 10.5 kW systems and BND 59 to BND 158 for 30.8 kW systems. If all households install PV systems, the government can save between BND 13 million and BND 30 million yearly on subsidies. The projected nationwide residential rooftop PV capacity ranges from 732 MW to 1536 MW, costing BND 973 million to BND 2046 million. The cost of electricity (COE) using this system is BND 1.33 per watt per watt. In comparison, the Tenaga Suria Brunei solar farm project with a capacity of 1.2 MW costs BND 20 million, resulting in a COE of BND 16.6 per watt. Hence, the residential rooftop PV system offers a 92% reduction in COE compared to conventional solar farms in Brunei.
The study suggests that Brunei should consider investing in residential rooftop PV systems due to their cost-effective benefits for both the government and users.
