500 ## - GENERAL NOTE
General note Abstract

Maraging steel coded K3362, with composition of Fe-8.76Ni-5.98Cu-0.26Nb-0.06Co-0.04C-0.04Cr (wt%) was investigated. Optical microscopy and scarining electron microscopy were employed to study the microstructure after austenitization at 1050 deg * C and water quenching, followed by ageing at 450 deg * C X-ray diffraction (XRD) was applied to evaluate the formation of retained or reverted austenite. Hardness and charpy impact toughness of the steel were measured. From hardness test, significant increase in hardness value was observed after the heat treatments. No austenite was detected in XRD, but copper as observed after the austenitization treatment at 1050 deg * C for 1.5 hours followed by ageing at 450 deg * C for 2 hours. The ductile-brittle transition temperature of the steel was found to be brittle before ageing and quite tough after ageing as observed at longer time of ageing.
