The data from respondents was analysed using IBM SPSS version 22 and AMOS version 20. The main findings found the construct of attitude positively influence university students in the three Asian countries, on the other hand for the construct of social norm was only significant for Malaysian university students, the construct of entrepreneurial self-efficacy play an important role to influence startup intention of Malaysian and Bruneian university students, the construct of perceived desirability of self-employment had significant influence on Indonesian, Malaysian and Bruneian university students. However, the construct of innovativeness personality characteristic was rejected and found insignificant results to influence startup intention of the university students for the three Asian countries; whereas for risk-taking personality characteristic had a positive significant influence on startup intention of Indonesian students only. Lastly, only Malaysian and Bruneian university students support the moderating role of intrinsic motivation had a significant influence on the relationship between attitude and startup intention.

Hence, with the interesting findings of the study, this research proposes several recommendations for policy-makers, educators and academics to promote the business startups among Indonesian, Malaysian and Bruneian students. The result is expected to develop appropriate actions which can be recommended and explored to support and encourage their intentions for startup through formulation of relevant policies. The policies that are formulated and implemented effectively can encourage launch and growth of startups in the country.

Keywords: Asian countries, Intrinsic motivation, Startup intention, University
students |
