Abstract
This study attempts to see why the adoption of digital payment in Brunei is below the global average with regard to awareness, user perceptions, and factors that influence the decision to adopt digital payment services in Brunei. A questionnaire was administered randomly to the public with an age range between 15-65 years old through an online survey tool in order to get data that will be used in this study. Therefore, a total of 125 respondents have been obtained for this research. The study also examined the intention and adoption of digital payment with the aid of the UTAUT2 theory model which proposed a research framework has been created to develop relevant hypotheses. SPSS software will be used as a tool to analyze and interpret the data used in this study which several methods will be applied in the data analysis that includes frequency analysis, descriptive analysis, independent t-test, correlation analysis, and regression analysis.
There are two dependent variables as explanatory used in this research study which are behavioral intention and adoption. The findings concluded that habit and perceived benefits have a positive influence on the behavioral intention to adopt digital payment in Brunei and the impact is significant to the dependent variable. The outcome of price value was found to have a negatively significant impact on the behavioral intention. While to determine the adoption of digital payment services in Brunei, the predictors are behavioral intention, facilitating condition, and habit. Therefore, all of these variables have a positively significant relationship to the adoption. On the other hand, the study also concluded that awareness also has a significant relationship to the adoption of digital payment services.
Implications and limitations were drawn in the study as well as some directions for future researchers were also suggested on the basis of the findings in order to provide a better idea for their future research.
