A project report submitted in partial requirements for the Foundation Degree in Mechanical Engineering

ABSTRACT:

Micro-hydro is a hydroelectric power that uses the available renewable energy resources like water to generate electricity. These installations of Micro-Hydro systems provide an economical source of energy without purchase of fuel. The basic idea of the system is to have water flowing from the river to the turbine which will cause the turbine to rotate and generate electricity.

This project consists of designing and fabrication of micro-hydro generator for the use of Bravo Base camp (BBC) which is currently generating power using fuel generator. The fuel cost is expensive to generate insufficient amount of electricity which can only last within two weeks. There are available streams flowing and small waterfalls near to the Base camp.

There are many stages that should be taken into when designing and fabricating micro-hydro generator. The research analysis was done in order to obtain the characteristics that are suitable for Micro-hydro systems.
