A thesis submitted in partial fulfillement of the requirements for the degree of Master of Science in the Mechanical Engineering Programme Area of Universiti Teknologi Brunei
Brunei Darussalam continues to be dominated by the use of oil and gas as their main source of energy production. However, with the recent decline in oil and gas production coupled with the decrease in the oil and gas price in the international market, the government of Brunei Darussalam has faced quite a number of challenges. Due to this, the government has initiated targets particularly in the decrease in the national energy intensity by 25% in the year 2030 and also to diversify the energy mix through a concerted effort and promotion of alternative and renewable energy sources for power generation. In this research study, the investigation of energy usage in selected industries in Brunei Darussalam was being carried out. This study would help to understand and identify the energy consumption as well as energy efficiency in industries in Brunei Darussalam particularly in terms of production and utility. The collection of data was obtained via the statistical yearbook and also through the questionnaire which was distributed to a number of small and medium enterprises. From the study, it could be found that the energy usage for Brunei Darussalam could be determined from the statistical yearbook and the data obtained help to identify the energy usage in several enterprises. However, some data were not enough to justify the result obtained and therefore more researches are needed to be done in order to clarify the results obtained for this research study.
Thesis is also available in CD and is not for loan or reference use.
