Report submitted for the degree of BSc in Computing Universiti Teknologi Brunei

ABSTRACT

Road Transport Accident (RTA) is a daily occurrence in the world's roads and Road Traffic Injuries (RTI) is considered the eighth leading cause of death of the world's population.

Fatalities and casualties in Brunei Darussalam are at an alarming rate based on the statistics released in March 2018 by Royal Brunei Police Force (RBPF) and Brunei Insurance and Takaful Association (BITA). The RBPF and BITA current system of collecting RTA data often difficult to interpret and missing some required dataset for research purposes. To produce RTA reports and statistic often requires extra resources and personnel and the process is very time consuming. This project is intended to enhance RTA data collection by studying and analysing the process of capturing RTA of the current system and conduct research on other similar system used by the neighbouring countries such as Malaysia and other developed countries such as the United Kingdom and New Zealand. The expected outcome of this research is a web-based RTA database system with visualization tools to be recommended to the related stakeholders for implementation. By implementing this system in the future, it would help RBPF and BITA to increase the reliability and accuracy of their RTA data when providing the RTA statistics and data to the relevant stakeholders. It is also intended to help the future researcher to reduce the amount of time cleaning and filtering the RTA data and shift their focus more on the Data Analytics (DA) part of their research to produce guidelines, introduces awareness programs and recommendation for Brunei National Road Safety Council (BNRSC).
