Abstract
Positioning system plays a major role in people's lives since the invention of GPS satellite technology. Almost everyone has a device with positioning capabilities like a smartphone, tablet, and GPS tracking device. Similarly, the emergence of indoor positioning technologies makes it possible to do tracking indoors. A positioning system is needed indoors where activities are done in big buildings covering large floor areas. With indoor positioning technology, navigation and tracking indoors would definitely be revolutionized.
This study focuses on the Bluetooth BLE or Smart Bluetooth 4.0 to pursue indoor positioning technology. Using a Smart Bluetooth 4.0 module to develop the hardware prototype which comprises a Bluetooth wearable device and a beacon that is supported by an end-user-friendly prototype application to provide the tracking and locating features. This study includes the investigation and analysis of the feasibility of this technology deployment in different contexts.
This study also aims to deploy and simulate the hardware prototype together with the end-user application to track and locate in a suitable indoor area so that estimation of accuracy can be established.
