A Project report submitted in partial fulfillment of the requirements for the foundation degree in Mechanical Engineering. ABSTRACT

A hydraulic press is a mechanical machine used for lifting or compressing. It generates force which are transmitted and amplified using incompressible fluid based on Pascal's law of pressure. Pascal's law states that when there is an increase in pressure at any point in a confined fluid, there is an equal increase at every other point in the container. It is calculated so as to reach the standard specification and safety measures to avoid mechanical and structural failure.

This purpose of this project is to design and fabricate a manual hydraulic press for the use in the mechanical workshop in ITB.

This project consists of two phases. The first phase begins with research into hydraulic press models. In the preliminary ideas, five designs were being constructed and, the best design was chosen based on the design selection criteria such as safety features, reliability, operation, portability, efficiency, maintenance and versatility. A basic design structure is developed using strength of the materials, beam bending theory, applied/allowable stress analysis, and material testing limit.

In the second and final phase of the project calculations will be carried out to obtain the exact dimensions for the hydraulic press. And the hydraulic press was successfully manufactured. Tests have been carried out and the results shows that materials up to thickness of 6.35 millimeters can be bent using this device.
