Heat exchangers has a distinct pattern of heat distribution. Under prolong thermal stress, the heat exchanger is reviewed and inspected for any failures or discrete anomalies. The simulation of heat exchange consist of a counterflow motion is conducted with the cold fluid in the inner pipe and hot fluid in the outer pipe is simulated in ANSYS. ANSYS Fluid Flow (Fluent) is used to investigate the heat flux of the inner pipe of the heat exchanger. ANSYS Static Structural is used to investigate the thermal stress based on the finite element method approach. The results are used to compare based on different case study. The case study is divided five categories. It is divided into hot temperature inlet, cold temperature inlet, Reynolds number, pipe thickness and pipe material. The contours are based in velocity, temperature, heat flux, thermal load, thermal stress and deformation. The data shows the maximum heat flux and maximum thermal stress exhibit by the inner pipe based on the case study. The overall result shows the pipe material has a very significant effect towards the wall heat flux and thermal stress.
