In the current context of human civilization, the Qur anic guidelines and hadiths are subjected to defiance - often ascribed to the "lack" of empirical rationale in the divine codes. For many, priority and reliance on empirical and evidence-based scientific observations play important roles to deny any form of faith-based practices of divine origin, be it for health and sickness or any other aspects of life.
Therefore, while a Muslim having faith-based submission to Allah the Almighty, it is not unlikely for him or her to suffer a dilemma in accepting the commandments for healthy living by comparing how those are perceived or explained regarding empirical evidence.
However, science and faith-based worldviews rarely run in parallel or towards convergence. Rather, there has always been one or another form of dispute in combining empirical evidence with divine commandments. Therefore, every Muslim must know the potential links and gaps between the empirical evidence and the divine commandments. Hence, in relation to the relevance and need of the 21 century, efforts must be made to relate any aspect of today's human lifestyle with the divine commandments. And there should be an absolute zero tolerance to ignore or nullify any of the divine commandments, even if it appears to be contradictory to the current empirical evidence.
Having that utmost precaution, it is important to evaluate guidelines for healthy living proposed by health professionals of different schools of thought in relation to those of Islamic guidelines. While it is possible to find many overlapping principles and practices between Islamic guidelines of healthy living with those of different schools of therapeutic interventions, it is not unlikely to find contradictory or incompatible principles and practices. Having those possibilities, this book is an attempt to address links and gaps to relate or compare the principles and practices of healthy living and healing in Islamic guidelines with those of different therapeutic interventions.
