A project report submitted in Partial fulfilment of the requirements for the Foundation Degree in Mechanical Engineering.
ABSTRACT
Brunei Darussalam is one of the developing countries in South Asia and has a heavy dependence on fossil fuels that can only be offset by the sustained exploitation of its indigenous resources. Supplementing the energy base with clean and renewable sources of energy has become imperative due to the present day's energy crisis and growing environmental consciousness. A precise knowledge of the wind energy regime is a prerequisite for the efficient planning and implementation of any wind energy project. Wind data is collected over several years by the Meteorological department of Brunei and is evaluated and analyzed. The wind resource is a crucial step in planning a wind energy project, and detailed knowledge of the wind characteristics at the site is needed to estimate the performance of a wind energy project. In this project, with the help of two parameters of Weibull distribution, the assessment of wind energy potentiality at Brunei International Airport was carried out.
