A report submitted in partial fulfillment of the requirements for the foundation Degree in Mechanical Engineering.

ABSTRACT
This report shows the designing and fabrication process of a new set of fixture for the educational use of the lecturers, technicians and students of Institut Teknologi Brunei. There are various types of fixtures and they are usually classified according to the machine for which they were designed such as milling fixtures, drilling fixtures and fixtures for bolts and nuts testing. In this project, the type of fixture that is required to be designed and fabricated is the fixture for bolts and nuts testing.
This project is divided into two parts. The first part is the designing process and the second part is the fabrication process. Designing process involves the development of preliminary ideas, selection of materials, calculations and mechanical analysis. Meanwhile, the fabrication process involves cutting, facing, drilling, welding, assembling and painting the product.
A set of fixtures for gripping bolts and studs during tensile tests have been designed and fabricated in this project. The fixtures are suitable to be attached to the existing machines in the Materials Testing Centre (MTC) of Institut Teknologi Brunei and can be used for standard tests as well as experimental research work.
