Abstract
Communication is defined as the process of using messages to generate meaning. Sign Language is commonly used by the deaf community to communicate. Communication problems may arise when a hearing person have to communicate with a deaf person which brings up the importance of Sign Language education. In Brunei, however, there only a handful of people are able to sign to practice with, lack of Interpreters or Teachers for the hearing impaired and almost no online materials available that contains Sign Language that includes local Bruneian words. With that, the solution that is proposed is the Sign Language Learning Application.
The Sign Language Learning Application is an android based application that can be used to help people learn Sign Language. This application focuses on the learning and the memorization aspect of learning Sign Language. With features such as lessons, dictionary, quizzes and fingerspelling, the app allows users to work on their Sign Language skill as well as keep track at how they are improving. Furthermore, the app connects users with the community by having forums and announcement feature to inform them when new workshops are being held. The prototype created was able to implement the proposed features garnering positive feedback through evaluation for its usability.
