By 2035, Brunei aims to achieve a national vision. To ensure the Brunei government can deliver services and achieve this vision, optimizing manpower within the public sector is crucial. Effective and efficient work practices are needed to optimize manpower and enhance productivity. The Human Resource Unit in each ministry plays a key role in ensuring proper human resource management and function. This study aims to investigate the significance, role, and function of HR units across ministries to assess the current status of human resources in Brunei's public sector. A case study involving nine ministries provided information and feedback on their human resource units. The results indicate that public sector human resources in Brunei need more attention, as most ministries lack independent human resource units to handle necessary activities for improving and enhancing manpower. The roles are often mixed and focused on administrative tasks rather than strategic approaches. It is recommended to emphasize the role of human resource management in Brunei's public sector to achieve strategic goals effectively.
