500 _aAbstract The curved bar apparatus is the application of Castigliano's theorem and is used to study the horizontal and vertical deflections of the curved bar under horizontal and vertical load. The goal is to design and manufacture an apparatus to determine precisely the horizontal and vertical deflection of quarter circular bar, semicircular bar and quarter circular bar with straight base. This also includes the preparation of laboratory experiments sheets. Two dial gauges are firmly fixed at a fixed support in horizontal and vertical direction. The supports for the dial gauges are rigid and firm and provide means of alignment in horizontal and vertical direction and hence the reading for dial gauges should be precise and accurate. The values for horizontal and vertical deflection of each curved bar are predicted very close to the theoretical prediction.
