500 _aABSTRACT The study aims to investigate factors affecting shrimp aquaculture production. The issue of low shrimp aquaculture production faced by a nation urgently needs to be studied as this issue may limit various economic opportunities. Moreover, the lack of comprehensive frameworks to explore this research area has led this study to investigate how entrepreneurial, organisational, and external factors would affect shrimp aquaculture production. Investigating these factors is crucial to provide comprehensive insights into the problems that previous studies failed to address. The study embedded the basis of a Resource-Based View and Dynamic Capabilities to provide an overall framework and strong underpinnings to understand the interaction of the discussed factors towards shrimp aquaculture production performance. A qualitative case study approach and semi-structured interviews were conducted with 15 shrimp aquapreneurs and relevant government officers. Thematic, within-case, and cross-case analyses were applied to identify and explain the research findings in detail. The study discovered two entrepreneurial factors (culture and ability to network), four organisational factors (shrimp production factors, research and development, human resources and species selection), and seven external factors (government management, government assistance, customer acceptance, community collaboration, supplier power, competitive rivalry and substitute products) that affect shrimp aquaculture production, which are discussed in detail in the thesis. This study contributes to the role of factors in shaping organisational performance, providing empirical evidence from the under-researched context of shrimp aquaculture production. The theses contributed to the existing body of knowledge, particularly to the Resource Base View and Dynamic Capabilities theories, by incorporating them into shrimp aquaculture production. Likewise, the study offers several implications and suggestions to policymakers and practitioners in improving shrimp aquaculture production. A Bruneian model of the factors affecting shrimp aquaculture production is derived. Nevertheless, the limitations of this study include a small number of samples due to the difficulty of recruiting more research participants and the limited ability to transfer the research findings to other industries, such as agriculture and processing.
